WEEK 14, Part C, WHITE OWL

White Owl at the Abundance of Rivers.
.
Was the person shown in the pictograph really called “White owl?”
.
Perhaps the original Historian meant something else.
.
Let us check.
.
The original sounds recorded by the Moravian priests in AD 1831 were “wapagokhos.”
.
Look up “Wapa” in the VIKING and the REDMAN.
[Hint, the best page is in Vol. 5, general vocabulary.]
.
What does "WAPA" mean?
.
The LENAPE named birds and animals by the sounds they made.
.
Do you think “go-khos” sounds like an owl?
.
Do you think the name is for a bird?
.
Or do you think the name describes a man with the attributes of the bird?
.
If so, what are some attributes the man might have had?

  1. White Owl may have had the ability to silently and stealthily move like an owl in the night, intercepting, ambushing and killing raiding parties from the Red Man, who might have objected to those happy go lucky Lenape (Vikings by another name) invading their lands and stealing their hunting grounds.
