CAPTAIN

SEQUENCE:
.
If you have been paying close attention, you noticed that this stanza is out of the original sequence shown in the Maalan Aarum (aka Walam Olum).
.
The phase "land that they all left" implies that they had already left a land.  Thus the stanza fits better after they "saved themselves and rested on the other side."
.
Sometime in the six centuries of reciting the stanza, a pictograph may have been moved by accident to another location.
.
CAPTAIN'S CHAIR:
.
The bench the fat man sits upon has handles.  A bench with handles was a Viking Captain's most honored possession because the bench was a symbol of being in control.
.
Erik the Red killed the man, who would not return Erik's Captain's bench after Erik had been exiled for three years.  That killing resulted in Erik the Red leaving Greenland for the rest of his life. He took his Captain's bench along.
